One of the most popular tourist guides Lonely Planet issued the prestigious “Best in Travel 2019” guide, which contains destination recommendations worth visiting in 2019.
In this chosen elite company, the city of Zadar can also be found. It has earned prestigious recommendations in the city category. This is the biggest yearly Lonely Planet campaign which recommends cities, countries and regions to visit as well as best value for money destinations.
“The inclusion of Zadar in the list of top city destinations for 2019 represents a great satisfaction for Croatian tourism. It is also a confirmation of the quality of what the city offers as well as of the reputation that Zadar enjoys on a world-wide scale. In cooperation with local tourist centres, we intend to use this recommendation for implementation in further promotional activities aimed at further strengthening the position of Zadar city, the region and the country as a whole” said HTZ director Kristijan Stančić while also congratulating all tourist workers and citizens of Zadar for this achievement.
The director of TZ Zadar County, Mihaela Kadija also announces excellent promotional effects with this nomination. “Last year’s campaign reached a total of three billion people and published promotional videos were viewed ten million times, while social networks accounted for more than one million interactions. The results above suggest that this recognition will bring the region, Zadar itself as well as Croatia closer to world travel lovers” said Kadija.
The selecting process of the best destinations and travels for the ‘Best in Travel 2019’ list includes a team of experts and members of the Lonely Planet community, which through a string of strict criteria choose the best of the best in different categories. Zadar was chosen as one of the 10 most desirable cities in 2019. Other cities on th list are Copenhagen, Shēnzhèn, Novi Sad, Miami, Kathmandu, Mexico City, Dakar, Seattle and Meknès.
“We are exceptionally proud of the award to our city of Zadar! Zadar is recognized by eminent tourist experts and one of the most influential tourist guides, which is a confirmation that we are heading in the right tourist direction. By wining the European Best Destination award in 2016, we gained significant marketing recognition on both domestic and foreign media as well as social networks. This year’s Lonely Planet Award will definitely result in Zadar’s entering into the absolute tourist elite”, said Mario Paleka, director of the Zadar City Tourist Association.

Today the city enjoys the status of a vibrant cosmopolitan destination, where visitors can discover excellent bars and relaxing cafes, antique ruins, innovate museums and autochthonous rustic restaurants.
